Star Trek Online

For quite a while, I knew about Star Trek Online. You may be asking me what it is? Star Trek Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Some people have WOW, and finally star trek fans will have Star Trek Online. The price of the subscriptions is about $15 per month. It gets cheaper if you subscribe at 3 months or more. They even have a lifetime subscription which is more geared toward the convenience of not having to pay from month to month.

Star Trek Online was Release on February 2010.

More About The Game

Everyone will be able to captain their own ships and from what I read, as you upgrade to a bigger ship, you can still keep your other ships. You don’t start out as a captain as a rank though, but from what I did read about it on their website, it won’t take long to rise in rank. For months, sites have been forming around this game. Some of them have already been star trek RPG writing groups and are also branching out to cover Star Trek online. Many of these groups will probably be helpful as you progress through the game. You don’t have to join these groups, but it may be more fun if you do. If you are a person whom loves playing video games and also loves star trek, you probably should check this game out.

My Opinons About the Game

I have to admit that I do love the game. I have been playing it since it was made available for open Beta. I also had preordered this game so I have been able to enjoy it like I should. This is also my first MMORPG. The game itself is not perfect, but nothing is perfect and they have their issues from time to time. The server itself has been down almost daily, but that is expected as you don’t always know how much you are going to use. This game to me has been a whole lot of fun. Its a mixture of both ground and space missions. Some of them are rather long and yet others can be short. Some of the missions you can do all by yourself and yet others you may need some help to finish it up. They spur the idea of actually working with others for a common goal.

About Character Creation

You start the game out to where you create a character to start playing. You have many choices when it comes to the game. You are given two character slots at the beginning, but a third one will unlock once you hit level 6 in the game where you hare given a choice between Federation or Klingon, but when you start, you can only run a Federation character. You are also given a choice as to what track you want them on. Each track does have its pros and cons. Choices you have are Engineering, Science or Tactical. In fact, I have three characters now in the game. All Female Betezoids, but each is a different track so I can play around with each track. Now I did try the klingon side, but I did not like it.

Both Spocks

Both Spocks are involved in this game in some way. Leonard Nimoy does the story while Zackary Quinto does the tutorials and directions during the course of the game.

About the Tutorial
As I mentioned above Zackary Quinto actually talks you through the tutorial. More like tells you about the different keys you need to press to get around. No matter when you start any of your federation characters, you will always have to start the tutorial. Klingon does not have a a tutorial which is probably why you have to unlock it by playing the federation side.

As for the tutorial though, if you are new to the game, it may take you a while to get through it. If you have been playing it and remember what you did through the tutorial, it will not take you long to breeze through the tutorial. I was able to beta test the game, so I was able to breeze through the tutorial when I was able to play the game for real in head start.

Skill Points

Skill points must be spent in order to get promoted in the game. In the tutorial, you are a ensign and once you get to the spacedock and talk to Admiral Quinn there, you should be promoted to Lieutenant as long as you spent your points. Remember spend them wisely as it will effect how you do in the game.

Fleets

In most MMORPG, these are called Guilds. In this game it is called fleets. In order to make a fleet in this game, you must have five people to start. What you can do is share items in the fleet bank so everyone can deposit or withdraw items they need.

The Game Is Not Perfect

The game is not perfect. During Beta and headstart, there have been down time when it comes to the server. Its a big game and it takes time to get the quirks out of the system.

Is The Game Worth it?

I’d say yes to that. If you like games and like star trek and want to get into MMORPG this may be what you looking for. For a long time, I wanted to play these type of game, but there is nothing out there that I like. WOW was not my thing.

Some Other Things To Know

You do have to pay for a subscription to this game to continue playing. The way to think about this is that you paying for your portion of the webserver. People whom have their own website, have to pay for it mostly or whatever deal they work with their webhosting company. This is the way I am looking at it with the game. It does cost money to run a webserver.
